Dr. Douglas R. Lowy and Dr. John T. Schiller are receiving the 2013 Research & Hope Award for Academic or Public Research for the integral role they have played in the development of the human papillomavirus vaccine against cervical cancer, performing fundamental research regarding the nature of the virus, animal studies, and Phase 1 trial in humans.
