CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid are closing hundreds of stores across the country. The latter is in the midst of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and Rite Aid has already announced the closure of 154 stores, but recent court documents show another 24 are set for the chopping block.
We have already listed those 154 stores for you, so here are where the other 24 will be closing:
Locations | Count |
---|---|
Michigan | eight |
Pennsylvania | four |
State of Washington | three |
Maryland | three |
New Jersey | two |
California | one |
Delaware | one |
New York | one |
Ohio | one |
The total 178 stores will be closed on 9 November if there are no objections in court

That all three chains are facing financial and staffing challenges is an indicator that their business model may be outdated and that further scaling back may be required in the future.
Walgreens’ corporate management have announced that they would be closing 150 of its nearly 9,000 stores in the United States by the end of August 2024
Back in 2021CVS announced it would be closing 900 stores over the following three years. At least 300 are already closed, with another 300 closing this year and another 300 next year.
Between Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid there will be roughly 1,500 fewer locations for customers to visit. As these numbers are so vast, it would be wise to call your local pharmacy to check whether they are staying open or not.
